From Congressman Michael McCaul

I took advantage of the Easter and Passover recess last week to talk to businesses throughout my district face to face. There is overwhelming and unanimous concern about the impact of our new healthcare laws on the economy. Small business owners are now faced with paying higher taxes if they exceed $200000 gross income.
Thats a middle class tax hike. The insurance mandates and penalties have instantly created a chilling effect on hiring as was evident when I visited Briannas Fine Salad Dressing plant in Brenham. This is Americas hiring freeze. I am also deeply concerned about our seniors who will suffer as a result of cuts to Medicare. Hospitals are already bracing for the impact of doctors leaving medicine and those who decide they will no longer accept Medicare patients.
The question I get more than any other these days is what can we do about this? Individually the answer is to remain active and engaged in the process. I am encouraged by how many people are paying attention and looking for ways to make a difference. This legislation was enacted against the will of the American people and I believe there will be political consequences.
