Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Rep. Gene Green (TX-29) will join the 2011 Offshore Energy Tour with Congressman Steve Scalise in New Orleans & South Louisiana May 18 to May 20. While on the tour the delegation will review offshore drilling platforms visit with offshore drilling workers meet stakeholders from the Louisiana energy industry and participate in boat & aerial tours of the Louisiana coast.
This trip will be a significant opportunity to see the progress of recovery in Louisiana since the Macondo oil spill" Green said.
Since last year I have worked with my colleagues to press the Administration to lift the deepwater drilling moratorium. I have always believed that a balanced energy policy must support all
domestic sources of energy including oil and natural gas.
The loss of jobs and domestic production in the 29th District and across the Southern states has been harmful to our recovering economy not only in increasing costs on our domestic energy industry and jeopardizing small business jobs but also increasing our reliance on foreign sources of energy" said Green.
Congressman Green will be the only Democrat and Representative from Texas participating in the 2011 Offshore Energy Tour.
Other Members of Congress accompanying Rep. Scalise are:
- Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (MI)
- Energy & Environment Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (KY)
- Congressman Steve Womack (AR) and
- Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS)
