Cong. Lamar Smith Seeks Re-Election

width=108Texas Insider Report: SAN ANTONIO Texas With nearly 24 million Americans looking for work and the federal government borrowing 42 cents for every dollar it spends the Judiciary Committee has approved legislation to put Americans back to work and to reduce excessive government spending said San Antonio Congressman & Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Lamar Smith while filing for re-election yesterday. Smith represents the 21st District which runs from Bexar County to Travis County and stretches west into the Hill Country. Smith serves as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee which has jurisdiction over major pieces of legislation advancing in Congress. Smith stated. Weve advanced a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution a measure ensuring that jobs will go to legal workers a patent reform initiative to foster innovation and create jobs and a regulatory relief package to reduce the burden of unnecessary regulations on businesses. Smith last month was named Policymaker of the Year in the field of technology by Politico a national political news publication. Also Smith recently sponsored a jobs fair in northeast Bexar County. The jobs fair featured nearly 100 employers who connected with some 1000 job seekers many of whom left as job holders. width=128It was gratifying to see such a great turnout of those ready willing and able to work Smith said. Smith is eager to continue his work to help improve the futures of the 700000 Texans in the 21st District. The United States House of Representatives is truly the peoples House and Im grateful for the support of the people who are my constituents Smith observed. Im working hard every day to stay in touch and serve as their voice in Congress. Im grateful for the past support of my constituents and Im working to build on this trust going into 2012 Smith said. Before his election to Congress Smith served as a state representative and a county commissioner. Smith and his wife Beth have two adult children.
