Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas –
“Number one, we have to know beyond a doubt that chemical weapons have been used. But second, we also have to have a purpose before we take any action … just to go in with a quick military strike that doesn’t accomplish anything significant is not the best way to proceed,” Cong. Lamar Smith told Insider’s Jim Cardle recently.
“What we do know is that under both the Constitution, and under the War Powers Act, the president needs to consult with Congress and get Congress’ approval …
“We’re already involved in Afghanistan and Iraq. Now we’re thinking about Syria, and it does make you wonder, with all the things that are not going right in this country, if this is a distraction or not. I hope not,” said Smith, the current Chairman of the Science, Space & Technology Committee and immediate past chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
