Texas Insider Report: Austin Texas I have been named the Ranking Member (lead Republican) of the House Ethics Committees adjudicatory subcommittee that will ultimately determine whether Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) has violated House ethics rules. So said the Austin to Katy Texas-based Congressman earlier today.
Such a hearing is rare and has not been held in the House since 2002. On Thursday we will hold an organizational meeting and possibly set a date to begin hearing Rep. Rangels case said McCaul.
Politico Online in covering McCauls leading role in investigating this Congressional ethics case
ran the following comments.
Republicans think Texas Rep. Mike McCauls the perfect guy to lead their side as New York Rep. Charlie Rangels ethics case moves into its next phase on Thursday.
Thats because McCaul who will be on the Rangel adjudicatory committee has an extensive background in law enforcement including anti-corruption efforts at the state and federal levels.
Before coming to Congress he worked as chief of counterterrorism in the U.S. Attorneys office in the Western District of Texas along the American border with Mexico and he was a state deputy attorney general under current Sen. John Cornyn.
But his most relevant experience is the stint he served battling corruption as a prosecutor in the Justice Departments public integrity unit.

It gives him unique perspective" fellow Texas Republican Kevin Brady said of McCauls resume.
The top Republican on ethics Rep. Jo Bonner of Alabama spent his career as a congressional aide and doesnt have a law degree.
He said McCauls qualifications made him a natural pick for the job which Bonner couldnt take under ethics rules because he served on the subcommittee that investigated Rangel.
This was one time where I thought it was very valuable to have someone of his background and experience as opposed to a former Hill staffer" Bonner said
