In last weeks hearing before the Texas Senates Committee on Homeland Security Congressman Michael McCaul (10th District-TX) appeared to testify on recent border developments including the murder of a federal ICE agent in Mexico. The committee chaired by Senator Tommy Williams also heard from the Executive Director of the Texas Border Sheriffs Coalition Donald Raey and various law enforcement officials. During the hearing Williams stated that the situation on the Mexican border had digressed to the point that it presents a clear and present danger to the state of Texas." McCaul noted that the ambush of two U.S. federal agents by a Mexican cartel two weeks ago represented an escalation in border related violence and was the first instance of U.S officials being targeted by the cartels. Congressman McCaul also warned the committee that security threats stemming from our porous southern border extend beyond the drug cartels and that signs of radical Islamic factions are increasingly occurring.Congressman Michael McCaul represents Texas 10th Congressional District.
