Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Today the House passed the Budget Control Act of 2011 with a bipartisan vote of 269-161. This common-sense legislation successfully reaffirms the principle that House Republicans fought for throughout this debate: it cuts government spending by more than it increases the debt limit. U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) a former business owner Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the House Budget Committee released the following statement regarding his vote in support of the Budget Control Act:
Tonight Congress voted to set a new fiscal direction and to hold Washington accountable by forcing a vote on a balanced budget amendment for the first time in 15 years. This legislation marks considerable progress from President Obamas original request for a clean debt limit increase without spending cuts. It also prevents his requests for job-crushing tax hikes on American families and job creators.
In just seven months House Republicans are already changing Washingtons spending culture and beginning to fix the broken political system but this is only the beginning not the end. We didnt get into this fiscal mess overnight and tonights passage of this legislation is just one of many battles in the war to restore fiscal accountability and transparency in Washington.
This struggle is similar to the one former President Ronald Reagan spoke of when he said We will preserve for our children this the last best hope of man on earth or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. The Budget Control Act may not be the perfect plan but it is one critical step to address the countrys debt crisis and save our children and grandchildren from national bankruptcy.
House Republicans will continued to offer realistic common-sense solutions that meet our obligations to the American people preserve the full faith and credit of the United States and begin to rebuild a strong healthy economy."
