Today members of the House Energy Action Team and other members of the House of Representatives fanned out across the nation to participate in several different events that highlighted how enacting energy policies that increase American energy production will help bring down the high cost of energy which cuts into family budgets and create American jobs during these tough economic times.
Here in the Permian Basin as part of HEATs 2012 American Energy and Jobs Tour" my colleagues and I toured an oil rig and hydraulic fracturing site in Upton County. We saw firsthand how the oil and gas industry in the Permian Basin one of the most prolific oil and gas producing areas in the nation is helping contribute to our nations supply of American energy and creating good-paying American jobs" said Congressman Canseco.
In addition to a tour of the oil field and hydraulic fracturing site in Upton County the HEAT event in the Permian Basin included a roundtable discussion in Midland with representatives of the energy industry as well as representatives of other industries and sectors of the American economy directly impacted by the high cost of energy.
The feedback we received highlighted the negative impact of President Obamas failed energy policies on the cost of energy for American families and businesses as well as their negative impact on job creation. For example it was discussed how the potential listing of the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard as an Endangered Species by the Obama Administration could bring energy production in the Permian Basin to a virtual halt leaving America more dependent on foreign sources of energy and facing higher gas prices all while destroying tens of thousands of good-paying American jobs in the process.
The roundtable discussion also focused on how higher energy prices impact other businesses unrelated to the oil and gas industry and add to the costs already being borne by American consumers. Overall the message we received from the roundtable participants was that we need energy policies in our nation that spur greater production of American energy as opposed to curtailing it to make us less dependent on foreign sources of energy and allow more American jobs to be created."
Todays HEAT event in the Permian Basin as well the others held around the nation highlight just how badly our nation and economy need energy policies that will allow for the greater production of American energy. While the House of Representatives has already passed several measures that would increase the production of American energy unfortunately these bills have never seen the light of day in the United States Senate where they remain untouched because of opposition from President Obama and his environmental extremist allies in the Senate.
Nevertheless the House of Representatives will continue fighting for American families and jobs by passing pro-American energy legislation that remove the Washington roadblocks keeping America from lower gas prices and more jobs" concluded Congressman Canseco.
