
I am very concerned about the direction of our country Smith said. As the senior Republican on the Judiciary Committee I will work to uphold the Constitution create more jobs reduce excessive government spending and oppose a government takeover of our health care system.
Smith also serves as a senior member of the Homeland Security and Science Committees. He was first elected to represent the 21st Congressional District in 1986.

Smith recently announced that University of Texas graduate and South Texas native Mia Garza would be his new campaign manager. Garza previously served as chief of staff for State Representative Kelly Hancock (R-North Richland Hills). In 2008 she ran the Todd Hunter Campaign in Corpus Christi where Hunter beat the incumbent Democrat.
The 21st Congressional District includes all or part of Bandera Bexar Blanco Comal Kendall Kerr Real and Travis Counties.
