Congressman Lamar Smith Seeks Re-Election

lamar-smithTexas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Lamar Smith announced today he is seeking re-election.

“I believe our top economic and national priority is to pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution so we can reduce wasteful spending and get our economic house in order,” Smith said. “Families and businesses have to balance their budgets and the federal government should too. The State of Texas balances its budget every year; it’s been 20 years since the U.S. has lived within its means.”

Smith has co-sponsored a balanced budget amendment in this Congress and in previous Congresses.

Smith added, “President Obama should listen to the American people who want to keep their health care insurance policies. The President promised families, ‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it’. He should honor his promise.”

As Chairman of the Science, Space and Technology Committee, Smith wants to protect small business owners from frivolous EPA regulations that cost jobs and stifle the economy. Smith recently issued the first subpoena by the Science Committee in 21 years to force the EPA to make public the secret data it uses to justify costly and unnecessary regulations.

The 21st Congressional District includes parts of Bexar, Comal, Hays, and Travis Counties and all of Bandera, Blanco, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, and Real Counties.
