Rep. Howard said: “Reinvigorating the conservative movement starts with the grass roots. The members of TCC want to discuss with citizens across Texas what we believe are the top challenges facing the state – property taxes and illegal immigration -- and discuss what to do about them.”
The February 12th meeting at Dulles High School will be the 13th town hall since Labor Day last year. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm. Other Town Hall meetings are scheduled in Burleson League City and Katy in the coming weeks.
Members of the Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC) have held a series of town hall meetings across Texas. In previous town halls constituents have focused their concerns primarily on border security and immigration reform property taxes and spending and tax restraint.
“We want to hear what is on people’s minds and we want them to know that despite all the gridlock in Washington conservative leaders in Texas are working hard to secure the border lower property taxes and keep spending under control” said Rep. Wayne Christian (R-Center) the President of the Texas Conservative Coalition the conservative caucus of the State Legislature.
“In the 80th Legislature we put over $14 billion toward a record property tax rate cut set $4 billion aside in the Rainy Day Fund passed new reforms to make budgeting more transparent and put $100 million into border security to help stop the narcotics weapons and human trafficking coming across the Rio Grande River” said Linda Harper-Brown TCC Vice President (R-Irving). “However so much more work remains to be done.”
To date legislators have held town hall meetings in ten cities across Texas including McKinney Spring Nacogdoches Dallas Cypress Irving Greenville Tomball Flower Mound and Pasadena. TCC will host a meeting in New Braunfels on February 5 with State Representative Nathan Macias.
“The principal purpose of these town hall forums is to get input from citizens on proposed solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing Texas” said Rep. Ken Paxton (R-McKinney) TCC Secretary/Treasurer.
At the Town Hall meetings legislators request constituents’ feedback on challenges facing the state to develop future priorities. For the Sugar Land Town Hall meeting on February 12 the top issues to be discussed are:
• The growing legal and cultural challenge of the estimated 1.5 million illegal aliens in Texas especially the problem of ensuring that only qualified US Citizens are registered to vote in state elections;
• The increasing financial burden of property taxes on homeowners and business owners;
• The imperative to require voter identification at the polls to help prevent at least one form of vote fraud.
