Remains On Judiciary & Budget Committee
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas today issued the following statement announcing his committee assignments for the 111th Congress. Senator Cornyn now has a seat on the Senate Finance Committee and will continue to serve on the Judiciary and Budget committees.
“I am confident my Senate committee assignments in the new Congress will serve as effective vehicles to better serve and advance the priorities of all Texans.
In addition to my continued service on the Judiciary and Budget committees my new post on the Senate Finance Committee will allow me the opportunity to weigh in on the policy-making process relating to some of nation’s most pressing issues including taxes the economy job creation and the provision of affordable and quality health care. This powerful committee extends it reach from our nation’s tax code to Social Security and Medicare as well as trade and tariff policies.
“With our nation in the midst of a recession the actions of the Finance Committee in coming months will be critical to the health of our national economy. I will work to enact policies that lower taxes for all hard-working Texans and give them more financial freedom to invest and save how they see fit. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Finance Committee to incorporate the Texas ideals of accountability hard work and smaller government to get the economy back on track as soon as possible.”
