Cornyn Bill to Combat Veterans Unemployment

In Texas we know the value of the remarkable commitment & sacrifice our service members and their families make on our behalf.  Our veterans deserve that same level of commitment from their government said U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) after joining Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) in introducing the Careers for Veterans Act legislation aimed at reducing unemployment among veterans:
This bill takes a significant step towards assisting unemployed veterans by cutting out the mess of red-tape that currently greets members of our military as they transition from military to civilian life."
Background on Careers for Veterans Act
  • john-cornyn-10Directs federal agencies to develop plans to hire no less than 10000 qualified veterans for federal government positions over a five-year period
  • Incentivizes states to allow veterans to use their military training and experience to qualify for state licenses or credentials required for civilian jobs
  • Makes it easier for veteran-owned small businesses to qualify for contracts with the VA and for surviving spouses to maintain small businesses
  • Identifies and promotes websites and applications that are beneficial for veterans looking for employment
Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees.  He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committees Immigration Refugees and Border Security subcommittee.
