Cornyn0114Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON DCU.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas today issued the following statement urging U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to call on Congolese officials to immediately resume stalled international adoptions impacting hundreds of families in the United States:
Hundreds of American familiesincluding a number of families in my home state of Texashave been stuck in limbo for months waiting to bring home their adopted children from the Democratic Republic of Congo. I urge Secretary Kerry while in Kinshasa to demand an immediate resolution from Congolese officials so these children can make their journey home to the U.S." Sen. Cornyn said. These families have opened their hearts and homes to children in need of a loving family and theyve met every requirement asked of them; they should not have to wait a day longer to bring home their children."
Earlier this month Sen. Cornyn joined 126 of his colleagues in the Senate and the House in signing a letter to President Joseph Kabila and Prime Minister Matata Ponyo requesting their assistance in resolving this humanitarian crisis. A copy of the letter is attached.
