Named in honor of Marshall Texas mother whose young daughter was unable to dial 911 on hotel phone

S. 2553 The Karis Law Act which amends the Communications Act of 1934 to require multiline telephone systems common in hotels and offices to have the ability to directly dial 911 without locating an outside line first:
The grief and agony this family and their community have undergone is unimaginable and we have an obligation to stop something like this from happening again" said Sen. Cornyn.
By making this simple change we can ensure law enforcement and emergency personnel are easier to reach saving valuable time that could be the difference in preventing another tragedy."
Background on S. 2553 the Karis Law Act:
The legislation is named after Kari Hunt who was tragically killed in her hotel room in 2013. Karis daughter was unable to reach emergency personnel because she failed to dial 9" to locate an outside line on the multiline phone in the hotel room before dialing 911. U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmerts (R-TX) has introduced a similar bill H.R. 4167. The Texas legislature has passed a similar law that will go into effect in 2016.
