Its time for President Obama & Congressional Democrats to work with Republicans to pass a long-term budget and make fiscal discipline a priority" said U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) while being recognized as the Senator with the largest government reduction agenda for the previous Congress. The NTUFs annual BillTally report examined all legislation in the 111th Congress and found Sen. Cornyns agenda cut more than $98 billion net in federal spending the most of any U.S. Senator.
In the last election the American people told us they wanted a leaner more efficient government that focuses on fiscal restraint and takes ownership over our spiraling debt. Im proud of my commitment to small government but we cannot ignore the tough decisions that lie ahead" Cornyn said.
The $6 billion in cuts included in the most recent continuing resolution are a positive step in the right direction but passing stopgap measures every couple of weeks is no way for our government to operate" Said Cornyn.
While a third of Senators had legislative agendas to reduce rather than raise spending in the 111th Congress
Senator John Cornyn was one of two who proposed to cut the budget by more than $100 billion" said Demian Brady Senior Policy Analyst for the
National Taxpayers Union Foundation.
If all lawmakers had sponsored agendas similar in savings to that of Senator Cornyns the federal budget deficit would likely be significantly lower than it is today."
