
WASHINGTONU.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas a member of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security today issued the following statement regarding his participation in a bipartisan Senate delegation visiting Afghanistan India Syria Cyprus and Morocco (photos attached):
I welcomed the recent opportunity to join a bipartisan group of Senators in visiting with government and security officials from Afghanistan Syria India Cyprus and Morocco" Sen. Cornyn said.
In India I met with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and we discussed a number of issues of importance to both India and the U.S. including economic opportunities and our shared commitment to fighting radical extremists" Sen. Cornyn added.

Sen. Cornyn also said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and I explored the best possible ways to proactively identify signs of terrorist activity and radical training. I am hopeful that Syria will yet choose to play a stronger supporting role in our Global War on Terror.
Finally in Afghanistan I was able to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and General Stanley McChrystal who updated me on the latest developments on the ground there including the implementation of President Obamas recent surge strategy.
While there I also had the privilege of meeting with many of Americas heroes including Texans who are serving with dignity far from their loved ones this holiday season. I was humbled by their selfless sacrifice and encouraged by their determination to accomplish their missions and keep our nation safe" said Sen. Cornyn.
Sen. Cornyn also added As we saw on Christmas day the threat of terrorism against Americans and other freedom-loving people across the globe is very much alive. The need for vigilance and robust counterterrorism efforts cannot be underestimated. I will continue to do all I can to support our men and women in uniform and our intelligence and law enforcement communities as they take steps to bolster the safety and security of the American people."
