Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance the nomination of Debo Adegbile to head the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.
“I find it deeply disturbing that someone who has demonstrated such a partisan approach to issues like voter ID and religious liberty would be advanced for confirmation to our nation’s highest civil rights office.
“Mr. Adegbile also has forcefully advocated for overturning the death penalty for Mumia Abu-Jamal, a man who proudly acknowledged that he murdered a police officer.
“Before the full Senate vote on Mr. Adegbile’s nomination, I urge my colleagues to take a serious look at his record, and consider whether this is a nominee who can be trusted to justly enforce the laws of land.”
How Energy Renaissance In TX Is Creating Jobs
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement regarding U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz’s visit today to Texas:
“I’d like to welcome Secretary Moniz to Texas, where an energy renaissance is alive and well and creating high-paying jobs across the state. As his boss continues to delay the Keystone pipeline and the thousands of jobs it is poised to generate, I hope the Secretary will see firsthand in Texas what can happen when the federal government is kept from interfering, and enterprising Americans are free to explore opportunities, make the most of our resources, and create jobs for their fellow man and woman.”
Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
