I will be leaving tonight (Thursday) along with a bi-partisan delegation of Congressmen & Senators going down again to the valley (along the Texas-Mexico Border) and then to Lackland Air Force Base (in San Antonio) where about 1200 children are being housed by the Department of Health & Human Services pending their placement with relatives across the country. This isnt about Comprehensive Immigration Reform ... we have a lot of work to be done but this is actually intended to solve the immediate problem right in front of our eyes and stop this hemorrhaging on our southwestern border. This is simply put an attempt to tackle a national emergency. Since October of last year 57000 unaccompanied children have been detained on the southwestern border. In essence the Presidents asking for a blank check when he himself acknowledged this morning in my presence and in the presence of a bi-partisan group of Senators & Congressman that he knows we need to address this problem or it will just get worse if we dont.Unfortunately the House tried to work together today to pass a bill that would I believe have provided more money as the president requested not as much as he requested but that along with reforms would have addressed this problem. Because the House of Representatives could not get any democratic support that bill failed.
There are a lot of mixed messages to say the least about the presidents commitment to actually enforce the law and we know that in too many instances hes simply refuses to enforce the law ... We hear so many mixed messages out of the White House and this administration ... " Cornyn said.U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) earlier today on the floor of the Senate addressed the Presidents refusal to consider bipartisan reforms to a 2008 human trafficking law that many believe is at the center of the ongoing crisis on our southern border. Senator Cornyn serves on the Senate Finance and on the Senate Judiciary Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committees Immigration Refugees & Border Security Subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General Texas Supreme Court Justice and Bexar County District Judge.
