Once again Majority Leader Harry Reid seeks to circumvent openness bipartisanship and honest debates . . . "
WASHINGTONU.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas a member of the Senate Finance Committee today issued the following statement regarding the jobs" bill introduced by Majority Leader Harry Reid:
Once again Majority Leader Harry Reid seeks to circumvent openness bipartisanship and honest debates by pole-vaulting his partisan proposals through the U.S. Senate. Rather than allow a bipartisan bill crafted by Senators Max Baucus and Charles Grassley to be considered by the Senate he quickly moved to kill it and instead force through his own proposaland then refused Senators the chance to offer any amendments.
As a result were presented with a bill that according to Sen. Reid is intended to create jobs yet fails to extend critical tax relief that goes hand-in-hand with job creation. Top on my list of concerns is the bills failure to extend the state and local sales tax deduction which effectively provides Texans with over a billion dollars in annual tax relief.
I stand ready to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to produce a bill that will help small businesses create jobs and generate economic development in Texas and across the nation."
