Cornyn Votes Against Lew for Treasury Secretary

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued the following statement after voting against the nomination of Jack Lew to be Secretary of the Treasury in the Senate Finance Committee today: In his hearing and in subsequent information provided to the Committee Mr. Lew would not firmly commit to reducing government spending and could not guarantee the Administration would provide a statutorily-required blueprint for reforming Medicare. I cannot support a nominee who refuses to commit to tackling the biggest drivers of our debt on the eve of another fiscal showdown created by the White House and enabled by Senate Democrats who have refused to pass a budget for nearly four years." Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees.  He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committees Immigration Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General Texas Supreme Court Justice and Bexar County District Judge.
