Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Dear Lojiks: If you have a valentine, say a word of thanks to God. Not everyone does. A valentine, to me, is an intimate person of the opposite sex that you do everything with.
Someone you trust. Someone who has your back. Someone you can snuggle with on a cold night, and hold hands with at the movies. A “soulmate” to use the current vernacular. A valentine is someone you get mad at, but cannot stay mad at. A valentine is someone you can’t live without. A Valentine is content just being together. I hope you have one.AP has a story out today about “Suspense in the Senate” — the decision made by members of the U.S. Senate NOT to announce the votes from the floor regarding the “clean” debt bill. This was not about good government or serving the people. It was CYA from start to finish. The senators were concerned about getting through the next election unscathed.
There is a most amusing story in the Temple Daily Telegram today by Alex Wukman about a planned debate between State Representative Ralph Sheffield and his challenger Molly White. The Central Texas Tea Party set it up for Tuesday night, but Sheffield wants no part of it. Why should he? He is in the inner circle, and has a lot more money than White has. The Telegram has this Sheffield quote: All Molly wants to do is get her name in the paper.”
Well, yes. State elected offices, like federal ones, have a strong tilt in favor of the incumbent at election time. It is difficult for an officeholder to lose reelection. Why? The power of incumbency means tons of free newspaper coverage and invitations to speak. It means a political machine is in place, typically getting help from other members of the Legislature like House Speaker Joe Straus.
The challenger must work harder to get his/her name out there. But debates are now a given in national and statewide elections. The question is this: do incumbents like Sheffield OWE it to the voting public to debate? I think so. Ralph is a pro and he can hold his own. If he can’t debate Molly White, how can he fight libtards in Austin?
All is quiet on the Judy Gate front today. TEXAS INSIDER DOT COM has carried some of our columns –so this story is going statewide. The basic story is about Mrs. Morales and her alleged crimes. But the real story concerns the Temple, Texas city council. It has hunkered down, circled the wagons, and clammed up. Not a word from mayor Danny Dunn. Nothing from any of the council members. Not a tweet out of the City Attorney or the City Manager. This make me very suspicious. Why is Morales’ presence on the council so important, that the council is not taking steps to remove her? I really want to know what’s going on here. Is her vote in the bag? For whom? For what?
I don’t know, but I smell “recall” in the air in Temple, Texas.
My AT&T bill for landline and internet services at the Mansion jumped from $48 to $71 in 2 months. When I called, I got a really nice lady in Manila, Philippines. It seems I can switch to a different kind of service for $49 for one year, then it jumps to $81. Ain’t monopolies wonderful?
Maybe you can see why I dread the merger of Comcast (which already owns NBC) and Time Warner. This new cable giant would lower service, make it harder to get a person on the phone, close local offices, and raise your cable costs. I cannot even begin to say how much I despise these types of mergers. It must not happen. Let’s all get our personal lobbyists on he case. Yeah, right.
Take a stand!
Logically,
Lynn Woolley
