The House Republican majority needs to stop threatening the American people
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas HOUSTON- Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee co-chair and founder of the Congressional Childrens Caucus and senior member of the House Judiciary Committee calls for a reasoned and quick action on increasing the debt ceiling. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee represents the 18th Congressional District of Texas in Houston Texas which is the fourth largest city in the United States.
Additionally the 18th District has 190035 people living under the poverty line 82272 children and over 58500 seniors.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has continuously fought against budget reductions to the social programs that support the most vulnerable members of our society.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee issued the following statement:
The House Republican majority needs to stop threatening the American people and get to work to increase the debt ceiling so that our country can pay its bills. Now they have even gone to the point of suggesting that America sell its gold and the assets that belong to the American people.
The real issue that we should be focusing on is that we must raise revenues while also reducing spending. They must complement each other" said Jackson Lee.
Congressional Republicans must accept the challenge that everything must be
on the table including ending the tax cuts to the top 2 of the wealthiest people in our country.
I prefer a clean debt ceiling increase bill so we can have deliberative discussion on how to cut spending without cutting Medicare and Medicaid.
We do not need to hold the American economy hostage and we need to begin these discussions in order to show the world that we are fiscally responsible" the Congresswoman said.
