Democrats Block Federal Salary Freeze

width=70YOU CUT Democrats Block Federal Salary Freeze Last weeks spending cut nominated by more than 520000 Americans was to eliminate a pay raise for members of Congress and other non-military federal employees saving taxpayers $30 billion. Unfortunately when Republicans offered this cut as an amendment on the House floor Democrats shut down debate not allowing a vote to freeze salaries while many Americans have taken pay cuts.  I encourage you to take part in our nationwide You Cut project.  Each week House Republicans put five programs on the chopping block.  You vote.  The winner gets a vote on the House floor - if the majority allows it. No Budget For the first time since 1974 Congress will not pass a budget blueprint for the upcoming fiscal year. This is a clear abdication of responsibility by the majority party. The Democrats would rather be criticized for not passing a budget than for presenting Americans another plan that calls for more out of control spending and higher taxes to pay for it.  The American people have spoken clearly. They want Washington to show a serious commitment to smaller government and the same budgetary belt tightening that most Americans have faced at home. Dont Ask Dont Tell With our troops engaged in both Afghanistan and Iraq I think it is irresponsible for Congress to change a policy without clear evidence that it will not interfere with our militarys objectives.  Any consideration of change that could affect morale should be left to our generals on the battlefield. It is unfortunate that Democrats feel the need to push a social agenda before an election instead of waiting for the Pentagons study due out in December that will gauge what affect repealing Dont Ask Dont Tell will have on our men and women in uniform. Memorial Day I was privileged to deliver the Memorial Day address in Brenham yesterday paying tribute to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation and freedom around the world.  This year my personal tribute to these American heroes began Friday on the floor of the House of Representatives when I recognized U.S. Marine Cpl. Jeffrey Johnson of Tomball who was killed by an IED in Afghanistan May 11.  On May 18 some 30000 grateful Americans lined the streets of Tomball to salute Cpl. Johnsons procession from the airport when he arrived home.  I invite you to watch my floor remarks honoring Cpl. Johnson and to view some of the photos from Tomballs outpouring of support
