Dems Already Going Back on Budget Promise

Conn-CarrollConn Carroll - Senior Editorial Writer Well that was fast. Less than a month after Senate Democrats passed a debt limit hike that included a provision delaying their pay if they failed to pass a budget this year Senate Democrats are already signaling that no budget should be expected. Senator Murray is working on a budget right now and we hope we can get that done" Sen. Jack Reed D-R.I. told CNN yesterday. But we need time. So the sequestration will prevent preempt us from getting a budget done and other factors." So dont blame the Democrats if they cant pass a budget. Its the sequesters fault. Never mind that Democrats never had any intention of passing a budget anyway. Pressed to commit to a budget in November Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray D-Wash. told The Hill she had no idea" whether Democrats could come to an agreement. The reality is that ever since Obamacare passed Democrats have simply been unable to find a way to match their spending priorities with their promise not to raise taxes on the middle class. Obama did not make anything easier with his State of the Union which included hundreds of billions in new spending programs without any realistic way to pay for them. The sequester will begin next Friday. There is no sign it will end anytime soon. Perhaps the Democrats should start working on a budget that assumes the full sequester happens on schedule.
