without raising taxes on Texas families & businesses while keeping spending as low as possible said Lt. Governor David Dewhurst as he & Senate
Finance Committee Chairman Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) held a press conference Tuesday to discuss Senate Bill 1 the General Appropriations and State Budget Act. Dewhurst and Williams focused on their commitment to promote conservative fiscal policies and budget transparency
for the 83rd Legislative Session.
Year after year weve made state government live within its means while adequately funding our priorities. The Senate will continue to work through the budget program by program to identify savings and determine our priorities with the revenue available" Dewhurst said.

We begin this session with a budget which does not rely on dedicated accounts and is well within spending limits"
said Sen. Williams.
I look forward to working with the Lt. Governor
Senate Finance Committee members and our colleagues in the Senate and
Texas House to craft a budget which controls spending and meets the basic obligations of state government."
Job one this Session will be to balance our budget keeping spending as low as possible without raising taxes said Dewhurst.
Its never a good time to ask Americans to make do with less so government can spend more.
