Dewhurst Taps Jan Newton for Sunset Advisory Commission

width=108Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst announced the appointment of Ms. Jan Newton to the Sunset Advisory Commission earlier today. The Texas Legislature created the Sunset Advisory Commission in 1977 to identify and eliminate waste duplication and inefficiency in government agencies.  

The Sunset process is guided by a 12-member body appointed by the Lt. Governor and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

width=90Ms. Newton has more than 30 years of experience working in finance business sales marketing and governmental affairs and is currently serving on the Northeast Power Coordinating Council (NPCC).  After retiring from AT&T where she served as President of AT&T-Texas Newton joined the Board of Directors for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) for a 4-year term.  She holds a bachelors degree in business administration from Texas Tech University and has completed post-graduate management programs at Duke University and the University of Southern California.
