
Senator Nelson spoke at a Feb. 17 groundbreaking for the long-awaited DFW Connector transportation improvements. Every person every business and every inch of this Metroplex is connected in some way to this interchange said Senator Nelson.
Construction of the 8.4-mile initial phase of the 14.4-mile project will be complete by 2014. During construction every effort will be made to keep motorists moving by building temporary pavement to shift traffic lanes scheduling most lane closures at night and keeping all lanes open during peak travel times.
Motorists can monitor construction along state highways 121 and 114 as the project progresses.
Senator Nelson Named Friend of Texas Medicine
The Texas Medical Association has named Senator Nelson a Fried of Texas Medicine for the 7th time. TMA President William H. Fleming III M.D. cited her work protecting property tax cuts reforming Medicaid improving immunizations ensuring the safety of foster children and providing resources to find a cure for cancer.
Scholarships Available For ROTC Students
Senator Nelson invites high school students who are interested in military service to apply for the new Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program. This award provides financial support to students who participate in Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC) programs at Texas civilian universities.
Scholarship winners must agree to a four-year commitment to the Texas Army National Guard or the Texas Air Force National Guard or to become a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services.
