
Austin TX Former Texas Governor William P. Clements Jr. and his wife Rita Crocker Clements today endorsed Republican Elizabeth Ames Jones for the upcoming U.S. Senate race calling her a visionary leader" and the best candidate to keep the seat in Republican hands."
Rita and I are proud to support Elizabeth Ames Jones for the United States Senate. Elizabeth is a true conservative who will be a dynamic and articulate leader for the state of Texas. Her work ethic and her commitment to true conservative principles is just what we need in Washington today" said Clements who was elected in 1978 to become the first Republican Governor since Reconstruction.
She is the kind of visionary leader the Republican Party needs to inspire the next generation of voters. We are confident Elizabeth is the best candidate to keep this seat in Republican hands and represent Texas for years to come" Clements said.

Governor Clements was elected to a second four year term in 1986. He served as deputy U.S. Secretary of Defense in the Nixon and Ford administrations.
Rita Clements a former Regent of the University of Texas has been recognized for her commitment to historic preservation particularly her work in restoring the Texas Governors Mansion. She was inducted to the Texas Women Hall of Fame.
Texas Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones 52 was elected to the Texas Legislature in a landslide upset victory in 2000. In 2005 she was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to a vacancy on the Texas Railroad Commission and was overwhelmingly elected to serve a six-year term in 2006.
Jones has been published in the Wall Street Journal the Washington Post and other major newspapers and is a
candidate for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
