Elizabeth Ames Jones Joins Recuperating soldiers at NASA

Commissioner Jones lends support to Operation Comfort width=65HOUSTON - Texas Railroad Commissioner Elizabeth Ames Jones today met and thanked wounded soldiers back from Afghanistan and Iraq at a lunch at NASAs Lyndon Baines Johnson Space Center.  The recovering soldiers being treated at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio were on a field trip sponsored by Operation Comfort. These are true American heroes who have given much to defend our freedom. I applaud the work of Operation Comfort and its mission to improve the quality of life of our soldiers during their recovery said Commissioner Jones. These men and women are an example of the best America has to offer Jones said. Operation Comfort headed by Janis Roznowski is an organization that provides injured and recovering military personnel at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio some of the comforts of home.  Operation Comfort organizes recreational activities and field trips for soldiers and their families. The soldiers experienced NASA from a unique perspective: They received a VIP tour including meeting with astronauts and touring the mission control center. Commissioner Jones became involved with Operation Comfort as a State Legislator more than four years ago.  She helped coordinate the original site visit to NASA for the wounded soldiers. Elizabeth Ames Jones was elected three times to the Texas House of Representatives before her appointment in 2005 to the Texas Railroad Commission.  In November 2006 she was elected to serve a six-year term. Jones is a recognized leader on energy policy and coastal issues.  She serves on the Coastal Coordination Council the Coastal Land Advisory Board and is a member of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact
