Today’s Logic Letter,

Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Good morning, Lojiks, and welcome to Presidents Day.
Apparently, you can choose which presidents to honor. Some states choose Washington and Lincoln. Some choose ALL of them. Banks are closed in any case. Me — I choose to honor our three great presidents: Washington, Lincoln and Reagan. Why would I want to honor Wilson, or Clinton or Carter? By the way, (banks notwithstanding) we do NOT honor our presidents by NOT working and NOT having school.
Speaking of working, you have to work to keep your phone bills and cable bills somewhat reasonable. I visited my local Time-Warner office (they know me) on Friday to inquire about high speed internet for the Mansion. I am pretty upset with AT&T. They keep going up, and the speed is slow. Any decent price I can get is ALWAYS a “promotional” price that skyrockets up after 6 months or a year.
It’s the same with Time-Warner. But their speeds are faster for the money. And, I have a LOCAL office i can go to. Of course, we all know that the local office will be history if the Comcast deal goes through. There is a lot of worry about this — columns in most paper saying that this time, the merger deal if way over the top. If it is allowed, then. at least, Comcast should have to spin off NBC. If not, can you see a time when the same company might actually own two of the big tree networks?
Remember, in your hometown, most of the radio stations are owned by one company and even the TV companies are now running several stations from the same building. Your local TV newscast may not even be coming from your market. I see this Comcast-TWC deal as a test. If it goes through, it means that the big companies are now more powerful than Congress and the Justice Department. They can call the shots. They could take us to war or stop is from going. They can decide policy. Congressmen, at some point, will be just putty.
Yes, folks, mergers are one of the things that threatens our republic.
If we lose free-market competition, how does the average family survive? What say you?
Ralph Sheffield and tomorrow night’s debate. I have been asked to moderate yet another debate, this time between State Rep. Ralph Sheffield and Tea Party challenger Molly White. White is raring to go; Sheffield wants no part of it. Observation: politicians who do not debate risk more (in some cases) than they would by simply showing up. Jerry Patterson almost surely lost votes in Central Texas by failing to show for the Lt. Gov. debate. I made up my mind that night — and he wasn’t there. David Dewhurst did not want to debate Ted Cruz in the senate race and see where that got him.’
Ralph is winning the TV/radio commercial sweepstakes, but Molly is winning the battle of political signs. Yes, the Tea Party venue is supportive of White, but since I’m moderating, I can guarantee a fair debate. See you there, Rep. Sheffield?
RELIGION: Lots to talk about today. A Houston Presbyterian church is considering a split with the mainstream denomination because of gay marriage. A 19 year-old female says she is part of a Satanic cult and has killed 23 people. And a preacher named Jamie Coots had all the faith in world. Coots handled snakes — rattlers — and they bit him. His faith was all he needed. The last time he was bitten, he refused medical treatment. Services are pending.
This should make an exciting episode of “Snake Salvation” on the National Geographic channel. If you can still afford cable.
George Will is out of the closet for comprehensive immigration reform. The wall Street Journal is too. Limbaugh says he doesn’t understand this. I don’t either. If you agree with Will and the WSJ, then why not side with John Kerry on Climate Change. The Sunday shows were full of it. FOX News Sunday was the most balanced. The other shows — including the one with Bill Nye the Science Guy who told us all that “yes, we can change the weather.” Nutcase.
Wasn’t he on the Comcast network?
Take a stand!
Logically,
