Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas - The annual Energy Star sales tax holiday will occur over the Memorial Day weekend starting at 12:01 am on Saturday May 26 and continuing through Monday May 28 at 11:59 pm. Appliances that have the ENERGY STAR certification are exempt from sales tax as a means to promote energy efficient appliances.
Energy Star certified appliances that are eligible for the sale tax exemption include:
- Air conditioners priced under $6000
- Refrigerators priced under $2000
- Ceiling fans
- Incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
- Clothes washing machines
- Dishwashers
- Certain programmable thermostats
- Dehumidifiers
- Delivery charges for these appliances
The sales tax holiday does not require a customer to call to apply for a rebate from the Comptrollers office nor does a customer have to provide a sales tax exemption document to qualify. The sales tax exemption is automatic for Energy Star appliances for the Memorial Day weekend.
