Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. The EPA would be barred from implementing their controversial new rules against Portland cement if an amendment to the Continuing Resolution by Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) is passed into law.
The Republican Conference Secretary has submitted an amendment de-funding the agencys ability to implement proposed new regulations which threaten the shutdown of cement plants nationwide the transfer of production to Asian competitors and an increase in overall global mercury pollution.
Everyone including the Portland Cement industry supports new rules for decreasing air pollution from the manufacture of Portland cement" says Carter. But the EPA ignored sound science and advice when writing this rule with the result that we stand to increase pollution and lose jobs if we allow it to take effect. EPA needs to listen to good counsel and re-write these standards to reduce pollution while saving U.S. jobs."
Carter has also filed a Congressional Review Act challenge to the Portland Cement rule.
