ExxonMobil Gives $5M for Hurricane Ike relief Assesses Own Damages

width=150width=150ExxonMobil donated $5 million to Hurricane Ike disaster relief on Monday while continuing to assess damages left in the storm’s wake at its own Gulf Coast facilities.

Irving-based ExxonMobil’s (NYSE: XOM) Baytown complex which was in Ike’s path sustained limited damages and has power according to the company’s latest report. A startup plan already is in effect for the Baytown facility. Overall ExxonMobil says damages appear to be limited at this point.

The company’s latest damage report added that its Beaumont complex is without power but several Houston-area product terminals are up and running.

Exxon’s $5 million donation to Hurricane Ike relief will benefit the American Red Cross the United Way the Salvation Army and the Texas Relief Fund. Exxon previously donated $1.5 million for relief assistance in Louisiana after Hurricane Gustav.

ExxonMobil has approximately 16000 employees and 5500 retirees in Houston. The company operates the Baytown Complex east of Houston as well as refinery chemical and polyethylene plants in Beaumont.
