for San Angelo Sherman-Denison & Victoria Areas--Unemployment Rates Will Continue to be Produced for Affected AreasAUSTIN – Federal wage and salary employment data no longer will be available from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for the San Angelo Sherman-Denison and Victoria Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) announced today.
Also known as the payroll series the data provides industry sector job growth estimates each month. The areas were selected for elimination based on population size according to BLS.
The TWC Labor Market and Career Information department will continue to produce civilian labor force statistics including unemployment rates and industry total job growth estimates for the three affected areas which are among the 65 smallest MSAs nationwide.
BLS notified the states that cutbacks are being implemented to accommodate a reduction in funding that resulted from the federal 2008 Consolidated Appropriations Act enacted on December 26 2007. In addition BLS also announced that it will no longer produce the MSA production worker hours and earnings series for all MSA areas.
These changes take effect with the January 2008 data to be published by TWC on March 6.
