Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. - The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Protecting Seniors Access to Medicare Act H.R. 1190 and the Protect Medical Innovation Act H.R. 160. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) released the following statement on passage of the bills:
Obamacare has been fundamentally flawed since its inception. It is harming Americas families and businesses and is causing huge increases in health care costs. While America awaits the Supreme Courts ruling on the King v. Burwell case House Conservatives have been working to reduce the burden Obamacare has put on hardworking American families.
The Protecting Seniors Access to Medicare Act repeals the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) the bureaucratic advisory board created to restrict access to care for Medicare beneficiaries. IPAB gives an unelected unaccountable board of bureaucrats the ability to make unilateral and un-appealable decisions regarding health care. The health care payment and policy decisions that the board makes will harm patient access to care and force providers to limit the number of patients they treat or even stop participating in Medicare altogether. Rather than having bureaucrats make decisions on care we must restore the doctor-patient relationship and leave the decision making in the hands of the doctors patients and families.
With passage of the Protect Medical Innovation Act we stop the devastating blow to innovation and the loss of American jobs that the Obamacare medical device tax has imposed. This tax leads to higher insurance premiums higher prices on medical devices and a loss of innovation and jobs for American medical device companies. By repealing this flawed tax advancements in domestic medical research and development can once again begin to thrive.
Americans deserve commonsense health care reforms that increase access to affordable high quality care and gives American consumers a say in their health care. With Obamacares fate in the balance of a Supreme Court decision it is important to note that the Republican Study Committee recently rolled out its own health care bill. The American Health Care Reform Act is a bold plan that starts with repealing Obamacare and instituting patient-centered reforms to increase competition lower costs and expand health care access.
