Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. -- U.S. Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) released the following statement today after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a joint session of Congress:
President Obamas newly articulated Mideast vision last week left the majority of Americans questioning the White Houses strategy to secure Israeli-Palestinian peace. It doesnt make sense to suggest that Israel return to the narrow indefensible lines of 1967 and to force our strongest democratic ally in the Middle East into negotiating with a government that embraces a terrorist organization.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus address to the United States Congress today signifies the historic friendship between our two nations. I stand in strong support of our longstanding alliance with Israel and for the democratic rights of all people.
Before negotiations begin to determine the status of Israeli borders we must apply pressure on the Palestinians to accept Israel as a Jewish state and recognize their fundamental right to safety and security. Although it wont be easy and painful compromises will have to be made it is imperative that we take these measures and do everything we can to help Israel and the Middle East achieve peace and stability."
