I stand in strong support of Israel the United States strongest democratic ally in the Middle East. An historic friendship exists between our two nations but the U.S.-Israel relationship is more important now than ever. As responsible nations we must depend on each other for our security; we are both engaged in a broader conflict against world-wide extremism. For more than 60 years we have stood side-by-side to advance our shared goals of a more democratic Middle East. Now we must continue to stand together as we confront the threats from extremists and rogue regimes in Iran and Syria.
So many of our nations critical foreign policy issues have a direct connection to the Middle East and it is my obligation as a Member of Congress to be as well informed as possible on these significant issues. I am pleased to attend this AIEF seminar in Israel to meet with key Israeli and Palestinian leaders to gain greater insight on core issues such as security diplomacy defense cooperation trade and investment which are vital to American interests and the well-being of my constituents. I will continue to work to preserve our longstanding alliance with Israel and to uphold the democratic rights of all people."
