Flores Votes to Keep Federal Government Open, Fund our Troops and Delay Obamacare

bill-flores3Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives has amended and passed the Senate Amended H.J. Res 59, a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through mid-December. Following passage of this CR, Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement:

“Last week, the House passed and sent to the Senate a continuing resolution that would have fully funded the federal government, defunded Obamacare, kept post-sequester spending levels in place and ensured our nation will not default on its obligations. In response, the Senate passed a continuing resolution that continues to fund Obamacare, but only funds the government through mid-November. Today, House Republicans have come together to keep the government open by amending the Senate resolution with provisions to fully fund the government, delay the implementation of the Obamacare ‘train wreck’ for one year and permanently repeal the job-destroying medical device tax that is part of Obamacare. Additionally, the House also passed a measure that ensures our military men and women continue to be paid regardless of what happens to the federal government.

“I voted in favor of these bills and they all passed with bi-partisan votes of 231 AYES to 192 NOES for the CR with the Obamacare amendment, 248 AYES to 174 NOES for the CR with the repeal of the medical device tax amendment, and 423 AYES to zero NOES for the military pay bill.

“A strong majority of Americans do not want to see Obamacare implemented. In addition, in light of President Obama’s numerous exemptions, waivers and delays for his political friends; the law is clearly not ready for prime time. The federal government announced the latest implementation delay on Thursday while the president was on the road extolling the virtues of this ill-conceived law. We have already begun to see the draconian effects from this law on insurance premiums, job creators and American families and businesses.

“Today’s amended CR provides fairness for all hard working American families and employers by giving everyone a one year delay of Obamacare. If the Senate fails to pass this common sense resolution, they will be ignoring the wishes of Americans and they will be responsible for shutting down the federal government. Additionally, should President Obama choose to veto this resolution, he will be responsible for the same outcomes. It is time to fully fund the government and to begin working on the nation’s critical needs – growing jobs, encouraging economic growth, balancing the budget, making the federal government smaller and more accountable and developing solutions for American energy security.”

Congressman Bill Flores represents the 17th District of Texas and is an entrepreneur, former energy executive, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of the House Budget, Natural Resources and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.
