FLYNN: Focused on Issues & Process Not Personalities

By State Rep. Dan Flynn District 2 width=102Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas I strongly believe we are living in the greatest days of our Republic. There are more citizens involved with the process than I have ever seen and this is tremendous. But we seem to be fighting harder than ever before to maintain the principles of the Judeo Christian values this great country was founded upon.   They are clearly listed throughout our Declaration of Independence Constitution as well as the Federalist Papers written by our Founding Fathers.  I want to remind all that this is not something new even though it seems more intense today. The Scriptures say We are troubled on every side yet not distressed perplexed but not in dismay cast down but not destroyed." But with the current administration in Washington bent on intrusion into states rights and trampling on constitution authority we must be involved.  However lets be focused on issues and process and not personalities.  We must acknowledge party platforms and the differences between them; one believing government is the answer to all challenges the other believing individuals can best make decisions for themselves and their families as well as taking care of the least among us. History tells us the Reagan years provided desirable growth based on the principles of limited government personal responsibility protection of life with the promotion of strong traditional families while protecting our borders.  This is the formula that worked to maintain the greatness of /America.  I believe these values continue to be the blueprint for the future of our country and pledge to continue my efforts towards that end.  The top issues and priority of the 2013 Session of the Texas Legislature will again be:
  1. Controlling the budget & spending without raising taxes
  2. Education and the fair distribution of school funds to rural school districts and
  3. Statewide homeland security issues such as immigration and the border.
In listening to the voters many do not feel they are heard and that their taxes are poorly spent. Emphasis must rest on fixing any past budget gimmicks weeding out inefficient and ineffective programs and examining the quality of services the State is providing its citizens.  I do not feel there should be any discussion on raising your taxes until the spending side of the equations has been made clear and clean. Those that promote gambling need to understand it is not the glittery lights it would suggest and remind themselves that the promises made by former Governor Richards years ago did not produce the results promised. States that have approved expansion of gambling have seen no real improvement to their economy. Funding of Health Care will continue to be the big gorilla in the room with transportation and water issues in need of close consideration. As to revenue we must continue making Texas business friendly assure protection of our energy industry and not allow any roll back on hard fought tort reform gains. It is my pledge and desire to continue to improve Texas and maintain our position as the leader of the nation by promoting sound social and economic policy.  I will continue to be guided by the wishes and desires of the residents of House District 2 and the State holding to the conservative principles I believe will best benefit all the citizens of Texas and their families. /It remains my pleasure and honor to represent all the people of House District 2.  My staff and I continue to welcome your input and your questions.  You can contact our office; mailing address:  P. O. Box 2910 Austin TX 78768.  Email:  District2.Flynn@house.state.tx.us. Toll free number:  1-800-734-9515.  May God bless you and our great State of Texas.
