Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas It is with great pleasure that I announce to you all that
last week Texas lawmakers provided additional funding for volunteer fire departments. After the severe drought conditions and extreme wildfires Texas faced this year Gov. Rick Perry Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst & House Speaker Joe Straus requested $27 million be
distributed to the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program as well as an extra $5 million to support the firefighting equipment and expenses from the record damage caused this year.
After the unprecedented wildfires Texas faced this year volunteer fire departments are now more than ever in need of additional funding from our state government.
Volunteer fire departments are the backbone of our firefighting system; without their hard work and unpaid assistance many of us would face great harm.
These honorable men and women risk their lives every day for the good and safety of our society and these funds allow Texans to show support and respect to these volunteer firefighters who very much deserve it.
The funds announced by Gov. Perry Lt. Gov. Dewhurst and Speaker Straus will be administered by the Texas Forest Service and distributed via grants
to volunteer fire departments.
Funding priority will be given to those fire departments hardest hit by this years wildfires.
I will be updating you as I receive more information on this matter.

Texas Forest Service and the thousands of volunteer firefighters I cannot begin to show my appreciation for all of your hard work in keeping our homes and communities safe.
I applaud this distribution of money and I feel that volunteer firefighters throughout the state of Texas truly deserve these funds.
