Representative Flynn anticipates another successful year for students at L3
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The Flynns Flyers have returned for a seventh year after six years of successful Flyer Tours Representative Flynn is again inviting selected middle school students from Hunt Rains and Van Zandt counties to participate in a special tour of L-3 Communications in Greenville. The Tours are as in years past a success for everyone involved and Representative Flynn is excited to accompany the students on another enlightening and rewarding experience.
The tour is designed to help motivate students toward a goal of someday being employed by companies such as L-3. The main emphasis however is the importance of staying in school. The tour stresses the importance of learning the basics of mathematics and science.
Flynns Flyers will be introduced to engineers who explain various aspects of their jobs. They will learn about designing antennae and will actually make a monopole antenna to match a specific frequency. Also the group will be shown the importance of placing rivets on an airplane in exact locations while visiting the new employee training area and will also be shown some of the newest technologies that apply to homeland security.
The tour was designed by the office of State Representative Dan Flynn to address the problems that major employers like L-3 continue to encounter with the low level of simple mathematics and science skills attained by the incoming workforce. The goal of this program is to help the students understand that what their teachers are teaching them today will be very necessary to succeed in the workforce when they graduate. Upon finishing the tour the Flynn Flyers are treated to lunch at CiCis Pizza in Greenville by Representative Flynn.
Six years ago when we began the program I was hoping to help inspire students to see beyond graduation and into the future. The Flynns Flyers program has done that successfully and we look forward to continuing this tradition. stated Flynn.
He believes that this annual event will result in making students aware of the importance of education and learning important skills while in school.
