Texas Business Leader Don Powell Calls Williams the Man to Help Turn the Economy Around
Lubbock Texas Former Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Texas businessman Don Powell today endorsed Roger Williams for the United States Senate and praised him the only business candidate in this race. Powell made the endorsement at a Tea Party Rally in Lubbock.
Roger Williams doesnt just talk about creating jobs hes done it Powell said. Thats the kind of real world business experience that we need today in Washington. These are difficult economic times. And thats why we need the leadership of Roger Williams. He has the best plan for cutting taxes reducing government and creating more jobs. He is a great businessman and he will make a great Senator.
A life-long Texan Powell has close to 40 years of experience in the financial services industry. He served as Chairman of the FDIC from 2001 to 2005. Prior to becoming FDIC Chairman Powell was President and CEO of The First National Bank of Amarillo which he started in 1997. He began his banking career in 1963 as Loan Officer and Secretary at the First Federal Savings & Loan of Amarillo. In 1971 he joined Boatmens First National Bank of Amarillo where he became Chairman President and CEO. He left Boatmens to start The First National Bank of Amarillo.

And as Senator for Texas I will work hard to change the policies in Washington so that we limit government and expand economic growth.
Williams announced an exploratory committee for the United States Senate on December 12 2008. A former professional baseball player and former college head coach he is best known for his 35 years as a successful businessman and as Texas 105th Secretary of State. As Secretary of State Williams worked tirelessly to promote economic development investment and job creation across Texas.
He also served as the states Chief Liaison for Texas Border and Mexican Affairs as well as Chair of the states 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Response Strike Force. Williams civic activities include serving on the Board of Trustees for the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University where he co-chairs the schools capital fundraising campaign.
Williams is also a member of the Texas Christian University Board of Trustees his alma mater. He also serves on the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Board of Directors as well as serving on the Admiral Nimitz Foundation Board of Directors in Fredericksburg Texas.
Williams and his wife Patty reside in Weatherford and have two daughters.
