GOP Group Includes Former United States Attorney General and Former Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas R. Phillips as well as former Texas Supreme Court Justices Craig T. Enoch, Harriet O’Neill and Alberto Gonzales joined a growing list of conservative judges, attorneys, public servants and grassroots leaders who have endorsed Dan Branch for Texas Attorney General.
“As a leading legislator and an accomplished member of the bar, Dan has demonstrated that he has the intelligence, integrity and energy to be a great Attorney General,” Justice Phillips said. “He will diligently and effectively prosecute wrong-doers, protect honest citizens, and defend our state’s interests as our state’s highest lawyer.” Chief Justice Phillips served on the Texas Supreme Court from 1988 until 2004.
Justice Enoch, who served on the Supreme Court of Texas from 1993-2003, said, “Dan Branch, a great Texas legislator, is the conservative leader who has delivered results for Texans. He will continue to do so as Attorney General. Dan will carry the torch of conservative values necessary to fight this out-of-control federal government. Attorney General Abbott has been a fighter for Texas. As our next Attorney General, Dan Branch will continue to take that fight to Washington.”
Justice O’Neill, who served on the Supreme Court of Texas from 1999-2010, said, “I support Dan Branch for Attorney General because he is a proven conservative who has delivered results for Texas and is committed to the rule of law.”
Justice Alberto Gonzales served on the Texas Supreme Court from 1999-2000. He also served as White House Counsel under President George W. Bush, and as the 80th Attorney General of the United States. In addition, Gonzales served as the Texas Secretary of State from 1997-1999.
“The endorsements from jurists like Chief Justice Phillips and Justices Gonzales, Enoch and O’Neill demonstrate the strong support we have from leading conservatives across Texas,” Branch said. “For years, these justices have worked tirelessly to end judicial activism and defend the rule of law. I am honored by their support and will continue fighting for the rights of Texans as the next Attorney General.”
These justices join six top former deputies of Attorney General Greg Abbott, a majority of the Texas House Republican Caucus including the Chairman and the Vice-Chair of the Texas House Tea Party Caucus, and leaders of the Texas Young Republican Federation in endorsing Dan Branch for Attorney General.
