width=110AUSTIN – State-funded pre-kindergarten will be the topic of the Texas Public Foundation’s February 20th Policy Primer.

Currently Texas taxpayers spend more than $1 billion each year on early childhood education with more than 60 percent of the state’s four-year-olds enrolled in government schooling. While some studies demonstrate benefits from early schooling others have failed to find evidence of lasting academic impact.

Join us for this important panel discussion as we discuss the costs and benefits of public pre-kindergarten and this emerging issue gaining significant interest in Texas and around the country.
The discussion will be moderated by Foundation education policy analyst Jamie Story. The panelists will include:

* Rep. Patrick Rose;

* Lisa Snell Director of Education and Child Welfare at the Reason Foundation;

* Dr. Susan Landry State Center for Early Childhood Development; and

* David Fincher National Child Care Coalition.

The Policy Primer will begin at 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday February 20th at the Foundation’s headquarters in Austin. Persons interested in attending may register on the Foundation’s website www.TexasPolicy.com. A complimentary lunch will be provided.
