Senate Finance Committee Approves Funding Materials for Pre-Kindergarten
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Chairman Shapiro has shown tremendous leadership in shepherding this process through her sub-committee on public education finance" said Bill Hammond president of the Texas Association of Business (TAB).

The Senate Finance Committee on Monday adopted CSHB 4 (the Senate Committee Substitute for House Bill 4) which includes funding for instructional materials for science and the newly revised Pre-Kindergarten programs.
This is great news. The actions of the Senate Finance Committee bring us one step closer to fulfilling the states commitment to fund the materials Pre-Kindergarten teachers are expecting this fall" Hammond said.
Founded in 1922 the
Texas Association of Business represents more than 3000 small and large Texas employers as well as 200 local Chambers of Commerce.
The instructional materials for Pre-Kindergarten are the blueprint for implementing the Texas Education Agencys new guidelines that significantly
upgrade the Pre-Kindergarten curriculum.
This is a critical step toward ensuring Pre-Kindergarten programs are of the highest quality. The

future viability of the business environment in Texas is totally dependent on our investments today in these early education opportunities provided to our children who will be the core of our workforce a generation from now" said Hammond.
Hammond points to a recent report
Invest in the Very Young" produced by the Texas Association of Business Foundation which provides an overview of supporting studies from across the nation that prove investing in early childhood education is critical to producing a quality workforce.
The report demonstrates the fundamental link that high quality Pre-Kindergarten provides teachers in order for them deliver the curriculum that begins the successful education experience critical in keeping these children interested and in school in the future" Hammond said.

Our message today is this. The Senate Committee Substitute for HB 4 that funds Pre-Kindergarten instructional materials out of current available funds makes sense for the future workforce of our state" said Hammond.
It deserves broad based support from all of us."
