Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Over the past few months I have met with numerous families in the district. Many of the conversations with them have turned to the growing need for more affordable housing &
job security to sustain family life.
Many young couples starting families have been frustrated and need more options to get a head start. My goal is to help these struggling families achieve happiness and longevity by creating the resources that can allow men and women to start their own small businesses and create more jobs in the community.
With more available jobs and affordable housing families can begin saving money and building their assets to strengthen our community. My priority first and foremost is maintaining the quality of life for all of us living in the district.
This month I had the privilege of meeting with you all to reconnect and discuss future plans for District 117. I met with
the Alamo City Republican Women PAC to discuss my next steps while in office and I spoke with the
Associated Republicans of Texas at the Hispanic Leadership in Texas Forum to discuss the need for strong Republican leaders in the Texas community.
On Sept. 12th I attended the Star of Texas Award Ceremony at the Capitol to honor all peace officers firefighters emergency medical first responders and heroic individuals that have died or sustained serious injury while in the line of duty in the past year.
About the Star of Texas Award:
In 2003 the Star of Texas Award was created after Governor Rick Perry signed House Bill 1937 that was passed by the 78th Texas Legislature.
In 2005 the Star of Texas Award statute was amended to extend the award to individuals incurring serious injuries in the line of duty. The most recent amendments to the statute were made in 2007 when Governor Rick Perry extended the award with House Bill 1187 to include federal law enforcement and special agents that have died or been seriously injured while aiding state and local law enforcement.
Lets remember to honor the many men and women who die and are injured every day helping their community.
I appreciate the feedback and conversations each of you have had with me. If you have any comments or concerns about the work Im doing or the issues facing District 117 please dont hesitate to contact me.
