Nathan Deal is set to sign into law an Arizona-style immigration law which allows police to question people about their immigration status as well as punish people who transport or harbor illegal immigrants. The tourism industry is bracing for possible boycotts.   So far no conventions booked for Atlanta have yet canceled. Arizona was hit with a string of tourism and convention boycotts following the passage of its law a little more than one year ago. Brian Robinson a spokesman for the governor said
promoting legal immigration and assuring that federal laws are followed is the best way to protect the human rights of everyone in our state."

Gasoline prices have begun to drop after reaching their peaks across the country last week according to The Christian Science Monitor. In Illinois for instance gasoline prices dropped five cents from their high of $4.32 per gallon. Concerns over potential fuel shortages interruption of deliveries due to weather and changeovers from winter fuel blends to summer fuel blends are easing. Syria Crackdown Widens In Syria a government crackdown on protesters is widening according to various reports with sources inside the country claiming that hundreds have been killed and hundreds are being rounded up by security forces. The BBC reports that heavy gun fire and tank fire can be heard in various Syrian cities. Some reports claim that government security forces are going house-to-house and arresting people in towns where pro-democracy protests have been held. The United Nations is complaining that a humanitarian mission has not been allowed into the city of Daraa where the Assad government first crushed protests with its security forces. The Assad family has controlled Syria for 41 years; protests are now entering their seventh week. Mississippi River Crests Historic Flooding in Memphis Hundreds gathered in downtown Memphis to watch the Mississippi River rise the day before it was to crest at a new record level. Ignoring sunburns and thick humidity residents of Memphis gathered at the rivers edge according to the Memphis Commercial-Appeal.
