In American it should be easy to vote and hard to cheat. However in Wisconsin the Government Accountability Board (GAB) has done accuracy checks on only a small number of newly registered voters and found problems with 22 percent of those says Reince Priebus chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin.
Believe it or not residents in Wisconsin can vote on November 4 without pre-registering or identification. With hundreds of thousands of new voter registrants and questionable practices by groups like the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) it is more important now than ever to get our election process right says Priebus:
• Recently the U.S. attorney and the Milwaukee police documented fraud in past elections involving double voting felons and dead people voting and voters who gave addresses that turned out to be vacant lots or highway billboards.
• In Milwaukee alone this month three community organizers were charged with voter fraud from among 49 referred for investigation leaving open the question of how many fraudulent registrations are still on the rolls.
• As of July 2008 the GAB appeared committed to conducting the voter registration checks flagging inaccurate voter information and potentially removing ineligible voters from the registration list.
• The next day the GAB changed course and ignored its own recommendation and is attempting to explain away bad information on the voter rolls as typos.
However it is twice as likely for a voter registration card turned in by a group such as ACORN to contain suspect information as a card from any other source. If the GAB is not forced to clean up the voter lists any number of imaginary people might show up at the polls on Election Day. Once they vote there is no way to undo the damage says Priebus.
