Appoints Clifton and Gauntt as members
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry named James H. Lee of Houston as chairman of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. He also appointed Charlotte Renee Masters Clifton of Snyder and Robert P. Gauntt of Houston as members. The board members act as trustees for $135 billion of Teacher Retirement System funds securities and other assets.
Lee is president of JHL Capital Holdings L.L.C. a private investment firm. He is founder and past president of Momentum Securities L.L.C. and is experienced in investment banking portfolio management and management as a general securities principal and registered investment advisor.
He is also a board and audit committee member of IncrediMail Ltd. and past member of the Texas Advisory Council on the Digital Economy. Additionally he is a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers and Tech-Net. In 2001 Lee was named the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He received a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an executive certification from the Centre for Hedge Fund Research and Education at the London Business School. He is being reappointed for a term to expire Aug. 31 2013.
Clifton is a teacher in Snyder Independent School District and president of Texas Classroom Teachers Association. She received a bachelor’s degree from Lubbock Christian University and master’s degree in educational reading from Texas Tech University. Clifton replaces Greg Poole of Baytown for a term to expire Aug. 31 2013.
Gauntt is founding partner of Avalon Advisors L.P. He serves on the advisory board of the University of Texas McCombs School of Business and is past director of Hope Worldwide. Additionally he is chairman of the Foundation for the Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston and a board member of the Greater Houston Church River Oaks Baptist School and West University Little League. Gauntt received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He replaces Jarvis Hollingsworth of Missouri City for a term to expire Aug. 31 2013.
